President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence operations.
The appointment was announced in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
According to the statement released on Monday, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven security operations and improving collaboration among security agencies in tackling emerging threats across the country.
Major General Famadewa (Rtd), a highly decorated officer, served in the military and intelligence community for more than three decades. His experience spans counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.
The presidency noted that Famadewa played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework during his tenure as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.
He was credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, an integrated platform designed to enhance cooperation among agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from active service, Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, where he contributed to research and policy discussions on policing, national security reforms, and civil-security relations.
He is also the author of the monograph, Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which outlines strategies for improving collaboration between civilian institutions and security agencies.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would bring his experience and strategic expertise to bear in advancing the administration’s homeland security agenda and strengthening national security coordination.
The President also urged him to support the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through proactive risk management and improved intelligence integration.
