Students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have won two grand prizes at the 10th Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals.
The global finals were held in Shenzhen, China, from June 2 to 5, 2026.
The competition featured tracks in networking, cloud computing, computing, and AI/Innovation, with a total of 177 teams from 40 countries participating.
At the award ceremony held in Shenzhen on June 5, 2026, the ABU students secured two grand prizes: first place in the Cloud track and second place in the Computing track.
In addition, three members of Team ABU 2026 received the prestigious Women in Tech Award alongside the Nigeria Network Team.
The competition commenced in October 2025 and attracted more than 220,000 students worldwide.
Following rigorous national finals held in December 2025 and the Southern Africa regional finals in March 2026, the students qualified for the global finals.
The Network, Cloud and Computing track finals involved an intensive eight-hour laboratory-based scenario in which participants were required to solve real-world technology challenges. The event took place on June 2, 2026.
The AI/Innovation finals were held on June 3, 2026. Widely regarded as the competition's highlight, the contest required participants to design and develop AI-based solutions using Huawei technologies.
