Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has commended the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, for the remarkable leadership he has brought to the ongoing transformation of Nigeria's sports sector.

The commendation was conveyed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adamu Ahmed, when he led a delegation from ABU on a courtesy visit to Dikko at the Commission over the weekend.

Professor Ahmed described Dikko, a distinguished alumnus of the university, as a source of pride to the entire ABU community, saying his appointment to head Nigeria's sports regulatory agency reflected the institution's enduring legacy of producing leaders committed to national development.

He said ABU strongly identified with Dikko's vision of repositioning sports from being viewed largely as recreation and competition to becoming a vibrant and sustainable sports economy, adding that the university was encouraged by the progress already being recorded under his leadership.

The Vice-Chancellor praised Dikko's courage, clarity of purpose and commitment to the national assignment, noting that for more than two decades he had provided visionary leadership across different segments of the sports industry, driving reforms in governance, administration, infrastructure and sports business.

He said Dikko's achievements continued to inspire students and demonstrated what an ABU graduate could accomplish through competence, integrity and dedication to national service.

Professor Ahmed noted that Dikko's success formed part of ABU's wider legacy in sports development, stressing that the institution had remained one of Nigeria's foremost contributors to the sector for over 40 years by producing not only outstanding athletes but also leaders who had shaped sports administration in Nigeria.

He added that ABU regarded its designation as one of Nigeria's six sports centres of excellence and the hosting rights for the 2028 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games as national responsibilities, assuring the Commission of the university's commitment to partnering in delivering both mandates.

Responding, Dikko thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the university delegation for the visit and pledged the Commission's readiness to collaborate with ABU to further develop and promote Nigeria's sports industry.
