Iranians would spend the whole week in mourning as the remains of late Ayatollah Ali Khamainei, the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran that was killed recently is laid to rest on the 12th of July, 2026.
His burial and the mourning of late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was killed in a U.S.-Israeli strike in February 2026 are marked by large-scale ceremonies, international delegations, and deep symbolic meaning.
Iran is staging a week of funeral events which will draw millions, projecting defiance and turning him into a powerful symbol of martyrdom.
Iran has orchestrated a multi-city funeral described as one of its largest logistical efforts ever. The schedule includes processions in Tehran, Qom, and his birthplace, Mashhad, where he will be buried.
Officials expects 15-20 million mourners and the events overlap with the holy month of Muharram, deliberately invoking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.
Regional and International Presence
Delegations from over 30 countries are attending, with some Western nations excluded for supporting the military action.
Key attendees would include Representatives from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Armenia, and proxy groups like Hezbollah.
Secretary-General Naim Qassem pledged to continue on Khamenei's path of "resistance" and confront aggression.
The funeral has become a critical moment for the Islamic Republic, transforming Khamenei into a "martyred religious authority" whose worldview was "vindicated". A central question is whether his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, wounded in the same strike, will make his first public appearance at the ceremonies.
What however caught my attention to write about the late supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamainei is his humility, sacrifices and commitment to the people of Iran and the land.
After 47 years in power, late Ayatollah Ali Khamainei left no palaces, Mansions, estates, huge Bank accounts or enriching his family as the case might be with African leaders but the world is remembering him for the sacrifices he made for his people and the significant impact he made in their lives, most especially protecting the territorial intergity of Iran and the people.
