Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has inaugurated a Digital Learning and ICT Centre at Martin Sanda Girls Science College, Paiko, describing the project as a demonstration of how public-spirited individuals can complement government efforts to improve education.
The ICT facility was facilitated by Justice Zaynab Bashir of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria as part of efforts to promote science education and digital literacy, particularly among the girl-child.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Bago commended Justice Bashir, an indigene of Paiko, for her commitment to educational development, describing the project as a worthy contribution to the state's education sector.
He said investments in girl-child education remain one of the most effective ways to secure the future of society, urging other well-meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations and development partners to support government efforts to improve educational infrastructure.
According to the governor, the Digital Learning and ICT Centre will equip students with the technological skills needed to compete in an increasingly digital global economy.
Governor Bago also inspected newly renovated classroom blocks facilitated by Justice Bashir and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work. He directed the immediate fencing of the school to improve security and announced plans by the state government to construct a modern science laboratory and a sports complex at the institution.
The governor further urged parents and community leaders in Paiko to encourage their children to pursue careers in medicine and other health-related professions, noting that producing more indigenous medical personnel would support the government's plan to establish a General Hospital in the area.
He also reassured residents that the Ward Development Project remained on course despite temporary delays, adding that a Commissioner for Rural Development would soon be appointed to facilitate the release of funds for community development projects across the state's 25 local government areas.
In her remarks, Justice Bashir said Governor Bago's commitment to educational advancement inspired her decision to establish the ICT centre.
She stated that governments that demonstrate transparency, innovation and dedication to development encourage citizens to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Justice Bashir described education as the most powerful tool for transforming lives and empowering young people, expressing confidence that the facility would enhance learning and digital skills among students.
Among dignitaries at the event were former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada; Chairman of Paikoro Local Government Council, Aminu Umar Yandai; and the member representing Paikoro Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, Umar Nasir.
The dignitaries commended Governor Bago for his developmental initiatives across Paikoro Local Government Area and praised Justice Bashir for giving back to her community through investment in education.
