In a move aimed at reinforcing continuity and political stability, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has retained his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, as his running mate for the forthcoming governorship election.

The announcement was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Niger State Government held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Minna, where Governor Bago also called for peace, inclusiveness, and responsible political engagement across the state.

While presenting the APC nomination form to the Deputy Governor, Governor Bago said the decision reflected the harmonious working relationship within his administration and their shared commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Niger State.

The Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring that every segment of the state's diverse population is fairly represented in government, stressing that inclusive governance remains a cornerstone of his leadership.

According to him, the government will continue to reflect the character of the state by providing equitable opportunities for all ethnic, religious, and political groups within the framework of democratic governance.

Acknowledging the growing political aspirations and agitations from various quarters, Governor Bago described such expressions as legitimate in a democratic society.

He maintained that every citizen has the constitutional right to advocate for the interests of their community, religion, ethnic group, senatorial district, or constituency, provided such engagements are conducted peacefully and responsibly.

The Governor appealed to political actors, stakeholders, and residents to avoid actions capable of overheating the political atmosphere, noting that Niger State continues to face significant developmental challenges that require unity and collective commitment rather than division.

He also directed stakeholders in local government areas where vacancies currently exist in government appointments to submit suitable nominees promptly to enable the administration to fill the positions and sustain effective governance.

Governor Bago expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, and members of the Assembly for what he described as their unwavering support and cooperation.

He noted that the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government has strengthened democracy in the state, adding that the unanimous endorsement of the Deputy Governor reflects the unity of purpose shared by both the State Executive Council and the House of Assembly.

The Governor also commended the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State for their steadfast support, describing the party's unity as instrumental to the achievements recorded by his administration.

The highlight of the meeting was the formal signing and presentation of the APC nomination form to Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, symbolising his official endorsement as Governor Bago's running mate for the forthcoming governorship election.

Political observers described the decision as a strategic move aimed at consolidating the administration's achievements while strengthening internal party cohesion ahead of the election. The endorsement is also seen as a strong signal of continuity, stability, and confidence in the existing leadership team as the APC prepares for another electoral contest in Niger State.
