The Huffazul Qur'an and Scholars Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, has held its ninth annual special prayer programme for peace in Niger State and the nation at large in Minna, seeking Allah's intervention to bring an end to Nigeria's security challenges and bless the country with righteous and visionary leadership.
Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the association, Sheikh Hussaini Abubakar Shakwata, said the annual programme has been sustained for the past nine years with the sole aim of turning to Allah in prayer and seeking divine solutions to the numerous challenges confronting both Niger State and Nigeria.
He explained that students from tsangaya (traditional Qur'anic) schools across different parts of the state converged in Minna after completing the recitation of the Holy Qur'an, while eminent Islamic scholars led participants in special prayers for peace, security, and national progress.
Sheikh Shakwata disclosed that the association is also planning to provide uniforms for tsangaya schools across the state to facilitate proper identification of the schools, strengthen unity among them, and improve their administration and coordination.
He appealed to the government to provide greater support for religious initiatives of this nature, stressing that Qur'anic education and sincere supplication remain indispensable tools for addressing societal challenges and promoting lasting peace.
Also speaking, the Tsangaya Coordinator for Niger North, Alhaji Ibrahim Wushishi, commended the initiative, describing a return to Allah through Qur'anic recitation and prayer as the surest path to overcoming the challenges confronting society.
He urged other organisations to emulate the initiative and called on the government to continue supporting programmes that promote moral and spiritual development.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Minna Traders Association, Comrade Zubairu Mohammed, reaffirmed his association's support for the programme, noting that peace and security are fundamental to the growth of commerce and economic activities.
He observed that traders are among those most severely affected by the prevailing security challenges, adding that every legitimate effort aimed at restoring peace deserves public support. He also appealed to philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to support the association in sustaining similar initiatives for the benefit of society.
The event attracted representatives of several Islamic organisations, including the Tijjaniyya, the Jos and Kaduna factions of Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah Wa'iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), as well as followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, underscoring a shared commitment among diverse Islamic groups to pray for peace, security, and national development.
