The has secured annual scholarship opportunities for Nigerians following a strategic partnership with the , according to a statement issued by the institute.

The statement, signed by the Director-General's Media Office and dated July 1, 2026, said the development followed a strategic meeting between the two institutions aimed at strengthening academic collaboration, research, and capacity development in leather and textile education.

The meeting was led by the Scientific Director of EiTEX, , and the Director-General of NILEST, .

According to the statement, both institutions agreed that NILEST would commence degree programmes in Leather Technology and Footwear Design and Innovations through an affiliation with EiTEX, . Under the arrangement, EiTEX will process admissions, provide academic curricula, moderate examinations, and award certificates to successful graduates.

The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint research activities and publications, as well as the sharing of training facilities to enhance students' practical learning and industrial development.

As part of the agreement, EiTEX will annually award two scholarship slots to Nigerians to pursue Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree programmes at the institute in Ethiopia.

The statement added that the meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and goodwill between the delegations, followed by a joint lunch at . Members of the NILEST delegation were also taken on a boat tour of Lake Tana and the .

The Director-General's Media Office described the partnership as a significant step towards expanding academic opportunities for Nigerians and strengthening international collaboration in leather, textile and fashion technology.
