Bauchi State Ministry of Environment has distributed Energy clean stoves to over 300  households including People Living with Disability as a step to encourage the use of free emissions stoves to curb deforestation in the state.

Bauchi Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon Danlami Kawule, who presented the stoves in Bauchi reiterated the absolute commitment of the state government to mitigate the effect of climate change.

Kawule said that more than 3, 500 households are set to benefit from the stoves, saying, that the issue of climate change is a challenge the administration was ready to tackle headlong to protect the interest of the people.

The commissioner assured that using the stoves would help in having free emissions that will improve the health and economy of beneficiaries and curb deforestation.

On his part, the Project Coordinator for Climate Justice for Oxfam in Nigeria, Kenneth Akpan, commended the Bauchi State Government for the launch of energy-saving stoves to curb the effects of climate change, saying "Oxfam had engaged the state in capacity building and advocacy engagements towards pushing for budgetary allocation to see how the state can take climate matters seriously, particularly in the area of deforestation, which is serious in Bauchi."

“Alternatively, people will need energy but if there is no alternative solution implementation of such policies can be difficult. So we have encouraged the use of energy-saving stoves to cut down on the volume of trees being felled while the government is trying to proffer permanent solutions to these issues.
