Ahmadu Bello University matriculated 8,547 fresh students for the 2023/2024 academic session, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala.
The ceremony, held at Mamman Kontagora Square, Main Campus, marks the closure of the admission exercise for the session.
Prof Bala described the matriculation ceremony as a time of joy for those who have successfully gained admission and passed through the screening exercise.
Prof. Bala, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating that it formally accepts the students into the university community, where they are expected to adhere to its rules and traditions.
He said; "this ceremony, you have been formally accepted into Ahmadu Bello University and you would now be fully guided by all the rules and regulations of the University”.
He reminded them of their social responsibility and urged them to maintain a conducive environment for learning.
“In this ceremony you have sworn and affirmed that you will abide by the laws of the University and uphold its traditions.
“University education is normally an exciting experience, so also a great deal of social responsibility upon you as you pursue your studies”, he stressed.
Prof. Bala cautioned against engaging in social vices such as exam cheating, cultism, and drug abuse, while emphasizing the importance of utilizing resources judiciously and being security conscious.
He assured the students of the lecturers' commitment to providing quality education to help them achieve their career goals.
He said it is the goal of ABU and its affiliated institutions to produce students with great capacity, saying also that it is the wish of the University to produce students with curiosity and creativity to prepare for proper engagement with the fast moving and changing complex world.
Similarly, he then enjoined them to be more security conscious and to abide by all the security tips provided for their safety.
Prof. Bala congratulated the newly admitted students into ABU community and then prayed to God to give the students the wisdom and courage to learn and to become good ambassadors of educational system.
The Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila, administered the matriculation oath in the presence of university management and key staff.
