Nursing is one of the most underrated professions worldwide. Nurses consistently offer hope to patients, striving tirelessly to ensure their well-being and instil hope of recovery.
The importance of nurses in society cannot be overstated. They advocate for health promotion, educate patients and the public on illness prevention, provide care, aid in recovery, and participate in rehabilitation, as highlighted in an article published by the Ingram School of Nursing.
Nurses have the profound opportunity to heal not only the body but also the mind, soul, and heart of a patient. As Maya Angelou famously said, "They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel."
While it is true that not all nurses exhibit kindness, particularly in Nigeria, where some may behave rudely, insensitively, or unprofessionally, violating ethical principles such as justice, beneficence, non-maleficence, accountability, fidelity, autonomy, and veracity, we must commend those who consistently uphold these standards, providing unwavering support and care to their patients.
