In a recent press statement, Bakyasuwa, the former Commandant of the Zamfara Anti-Thuggery Agency, has strongly condemned the arrest of his former Secretary, Isah Haruna, who has been in police custody for about a week.
Bakyasuwa expressed his belief that the arrest was politically motivated, targeting the previous leadership of the agency. "I believe his arrest is behind political reasons against the immediate past leadership of the Anti-Thuggery Agency," he stated. "I am using this medium to condemn the arrest of innocent Isah Haruna."
He further praised Haruna's contributions to the agency, highlighting his dedication and integrity. "Me that work with Isah Haruna, I can testify to his positive contributions in managing the agency towards restoring peace and stability in the state. He is very sincere, hardworking, and a transparent person. He contributed immensely to all the successes recorded by the agency."
Bakyasuwa lamented the current state of affairs, attributing Haruna's predicament to the interests of selfish politicians. "It is very unfortunate that the person who sacrificed his life to save others is now facing problems because of the interest of some selfish politicians," he remarked.
He also voiced concerns about his own safety, linking the situation to his outspoken criticism of the escalating security issues in Zamfara. "I know I am the next target, and this may have a connection with my recent media interviews condemning the escalating security situation in the state."
As a dedicated Zamfara indigene, Bakyasuwa reiterated his commitment to speaking out against the challenges faced by the people of Zamfara. "Wallahi, I will continue to speak on the challenges faced by the people of Zamfara. Communities in Zamfara have come under the authority of bandits. Attacks, kidnapping, and other crimes have become rampant on a daily basis. Some communities cannot stay in their homes or go to farms until they pay millions of naira to bandits."
He criticized the state's leadership, pointing out the discrepancy between the government's presence and the rampant insecurity. "A Zamfara where we have state government and a state that we have a Minister of State for Defence has become the epicenter of banditry activities in the whole North West."
Despite the personal risks, Bakyasuwa remains resolute in his stance. "Wallahi, I have no regret on whatever situation I find myself in because I voiced out the challenges faced by my people. I always believe that anytime you fight crime, the crime will fight you back, and I am ready for that."
In his concluding appeal, Bakyasuwa called on the state Commissioner of Police to intervene and secure Haruna's release. "I am therefore appealing to the state Commissioner of Police to order the release of the innocent Isah Haruna," he urged.
