The ongoing data capturing of motorcycle and tricycle riders by the Zamfara State Government will aid traffic management and help combat security challenges in the state, according to Musa Udu, the Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) in Zamfara.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) held in Gusau on Thursday, Udu, who is newly deployed to the command, praised the urban renewal projects and the State Roads Traffic Agency’s policy of data capturing for motorcycle and tricycle riders in Zamfara.

He noted that the data capturing would undoubtedly assist the FRSC in controlling and managing traffic. In the event of any security breach, the data would enable security operatives to easily identify and apprehend the culprits.

"The support of the state government for road traffic management has been quite impressive," Udu said. He commended the synergy between security and paramilitary agencies and called for continued support, particularly in intelligence sharing with the Zamfara sector command.

"Upon my resumption in the state, I received courtesy visits from almost all the agencies, which demonstrated a good working relationship and a collaborative effort in addressing the state's challenges," he added.

Udu expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the reconstruction and dualization of the Zaria to Sokoto road, while cautioning motorists to exercise greater care when driving, especially under special conditions. He emphasized that such conditions require more attention to ensure safety.

He also urged construction companies to use adequate road signs and employ personnel for traffic control to ensure the safety of road users.

Furthermore, Udu advised the public to avoid night journeys due to the road conditions caused by ongoing construction work, rainfall, and insecurity.

The sector commander identified overloading by vehicles transporting goods from Kano to Sokoto and Kebbi as one of the major challenges facing the command. He stressed that the FRSC is seriously combating this menace and will take strict action against anyone found culpable.
