A land crisis has erupted between the Gbage and Dakumi communities, who have coexisted for several decades in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

Reliable sources indicate that the violence broke out around eight o'clock on Wednesday, although the land dispute between the two communities has been ongoing for quite some time and is still pending in court.

Reports suggest that the district head had prohibited both communities from cultivating the disputed land until a resolution was reached. However, this order was violated when one of the villages brought a tractor to farm the land, leading to the outbreak of attacks on Wednesday.

Further revelations indicate that both communities are preparing for counter-attacks following Wednesday's crisis, which has resulted in injuries and property destruction on both sides in the Ebbo/Gbachinku Ward of Lapai Local Council.

Findings suggest that the crisis has escalated beyond the capacity of the Local Government Council Chairman, Alhaji Musa Kirikpo, who is calling for urgent intervention to restore peace and tranquillity in the community.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity to Prestige FM Minna, appealed to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and Niger State Police Commissioner CP Danmamman to intervene quickly before the crisis escalates further.
