The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended two female suspects for allegedly conspiring to steal and sell a 4-year-old boy named Friday Okonkwo.

The arrested suspects are Blessing Okonkwo, 24 years old, and Efunaya Nabufe, 35 years old, residents of Mubi North LGA in the state.

Both accused confessed to the crime during interrogation by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore, at the command headquarters in Yola on Thursday.

Earlier, SP Ngurore revealed that the mother of the boy, Hauwa Lawan, residing in Rimirgo, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, reported her son missing to the police on July 2, 2024.

Blessing, who is Friday's elder sister, visited their mother in Rimirgo last year and persuaded her to allow her younger brother to come to Mubi for schooling, citing the lack of adequate educational facilities in Rimirgo.

Unbeknownst to Hauwa, her daughter had already arranged with Efunaya to sell the boy. Blessing falsely claimed that Friday was her biological child, born during her secondary school years.

After obtaining custody, Blessing took the boy to Mubi and sold him to Efunaya for N410,000. Efunaya subsequently transported the boy to Enugu State, as confessed by both suspects to the police.
