The Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Bala Ibrahim, has inaugurated peace and reconciliation committees to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in Janwawa and Bagadaza within Birnin Kudu and Gwaram Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committees, the SSG emphasized that the establishment of these committees demonstrates Governor Namadi’s administration’s commitment to promoting peace and stability among its citizenry.
The SSG listed some of the committees' terms of reference, which include ensuring fairness and justice in the allocation of farmland, demarcating stock routes, and designating grazing reserves. He added that the committees are also responsible for enlightening farmers and herders about the importance of each other to society and the necessity of peaceful coexistence.
Similarly, the committees are to encourage disputing parties to resolve their differences amicably. The SSG further stated that the committees are to ensure that farmers do not encroach on any existing tract leading to streams, rivers, or water sources used by livestock.
Responding on behalf of the two committees, the Chairman of the Committee for Janwawa in Sundumina District, who is also the Jakadan Sulhu Dutse, Alhaji Ado Ahmed, expressed his delight at the appointment and pledged to give their best and justify the confidence reposed in them.
