The Zamfara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE Project) has pledged to enhance disability inclusion in the implementation of its initiatives across the state.

State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Saadatu Abdu Gusau, made this commitment during a meeting with the leadership of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) in Gusau on Monday.

In a statement signed by Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, Project Communications Officer for Zamfara AGILE, it was noted that the Coordinator, represented by Deputy Project Coordinator Dr. Salisu Dalhatu, emphasized the project’s dedication to improving disability inclusion as part of its broader goals.

Saadatu Abdu Gusau assured stakeholders that the AGILE Project would collaborate with disability-focused NGOs, civil society organizations (CSOs), development partners, and government agencies to ensure effective and equitable outcomes. She highlighted the need to identify and remove barriers to access for persons with disabilities, fostering partnerships to bridge these gaps.

As part of its inclusion efforts, the Zamfara AGILE Project plans to rehabilitate schools for special education, aiming to ensure a better future for girls with disabilities.

The Coordinator also called for continued support and prayers to help realize Governor Dauda Lawal's vision, particularly in the context of the State of Emergency declared on education, which aims to promote sustainable development in Zamfara.

In response, Dr. Bilyaminu Umar, State Chairman of JONAPWD, described the ongoing neglect and discrimination faced by people with disabilities as unfortunate. He expressed appreciation to the Zamfara AGILE team for their warm reception and commitment to inclusive implementation. Dr. Umar pledged JONAPWD’s support in engaging and educating its members on school enrollment, retention, and completion as part of the project’s goals.
