The Council of Northern Yoruba Traditional Obas has pledged to collaborate with government authorities at all levels to find lasting solutions to the region's insecurity challenges.

During its 26th meeting held in Zaria, the council expressed its commitment to working closely with Northern Emirs and other traditional leaders to ensure peace and stability in the region.

The newly elected chairman of the council, Alhaji Murtala Sani Adeleke, emphasized the council's ongoing contributions to promoting sustainable peace in northern Nigeria. He assured attendees of increased efforts in partnering with governments to restore the region's once-stable environment.

Oba Adeleke, who is also the Yoruba Oba of Funtua, condemned the persistent insurgency and terrorism affecting parts of the North. While appreciating the efforts of security agencies in mitigating the situation, he urged them to intensify their strategies to eliminate criminal activities in the region.

He also criticized the existence of a parallel organization seeking to undermine the council, vowing that such groups would be addressed appropriately.

Expressing his gratitude for the mandate to lead, Oba Adeleke promised to strengthen the council’s collaboration with Yoruba traditional rulers in southern Nigeria to achieve common goals.

The Vice Chairman of the council, Oba Yoruba of Kano, Engineer Dr. Murtala Alimi Otisese, also expressed his commitment to improving the welfare of both Yoruba people in the North and the broader host communities across Nigeria.

The meeting, attended by Yoruba Obas from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, concluded with the election of a new executive committee to steer the council forward.
