The Niger State Ministry of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs advanced its sensitization efforts today in preparation for the upcoming Nomadic Baseline Data Capturing Exercise. The initiative aims to collect comprehensive data on nomadic and pastoral communities to inform targeted policies and interventions.

The day commenced with a visit to the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, at his palace in Bida. The Honorable Commissioner, Umar Ahmed Sanda Rebe, and his team were warmly welcomed by the traditional ruler, who underscored the significance of fostering unity and development within nomadic and pastoralist communities.

The team then moved to Lemu, in Gbako Local Government Area, where representatives from farming and herding communities convened. Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner emphasized the exercise's pivotal role in addressing community-specific challenges through informed policymaking. Stakeholders at the meeting expressed their support and pledged their full cooperation.

The final stop for the day was Badeggi in Katcha Local Government Area, where the event attracted a robust turnout of stakeholders, including district heads, village heads, Ardos, Sarkin Fulanis, and other traditional leaders. The Honorable Commissioner reiterated the need for accurate data collection as a foundation for resolving communal issues and promoting peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

The Commissioner was joined by senior Ministry officials, including the Director of Administration, Abubakar Aliyu, and Chief Accountant, Malam Suleiman Ruga, among other key personnel. Their participation underscored the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring the success of the sensitization and the data collection exercise.

The sensitization tour will continue tomorrow with visits to other local government areas, as part of the Ministry’s commitment to engaging and involving all stakeholders in this critical initiative.
