The Niger State Government has announced plans to construct a ring road in Kontagora to ease vehicular congestion in the town.
Governor Umaru Bago disclosed this while inspecting road projects in the local government area as part of his statewide project monitoring tour. He revealed that the proposed ring road would be complemented by a new Kontagora city featuring basic social amenities, recreational centers, parks, and hotels to enhance the town's aesthetics.
The governor also emphasized his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, stating that trees would be planted along the ring road as part of the government’s Green Initiative.
During the inspection, Governor Bago reviewed the ongoing expansion of a 7.8 km single-lane road constructed by the previous administration, which is being upgraded to include modern facilities similar to those planned for the ring road. He also assessed progress on the ongoing construction of a 21.2 km road, making observations and reiterating his commitment to ensuring the timely completion of both state and federal road projects in the area to improve road users' experiences.
The governor later visited the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammad Barau Mu'azu II, at his palace, where he sought royal blessings and expressed appreciation for the support and love of the people of Kontagora and the entire Emirate. He announced plans to construct a befitting accommodation for the Emir within the palace as part of his administration's commitment to the Emirate's development.
The Emir of Kontagora commended Governor Bago, describing him as an exemplary leader with outstanding qualities. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing developmental projects, noting their transformative impact on the lives of citizens.
Governor Bago also visited the Babban Rami community in Mashegu Local Government Area, where he interacted with residents and assured them of his administration’s continued efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy. He acknowledged Mashegu's status as the local government with the largest farmlands in the state, pledging more agricultural interventions to sustain its leadership in farming activities.
In their separate remarks, Mashegu Council Chairman Umar Jibrin, Mashegu State Constituency representative Alhassan Isah, and the District Head of Babban Rami, Ismaila Muhammad Fodio, lauded the governor’s developmental strides and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting his administration.
