The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed N50 million to 250 elderly citizens in Zamfara State under the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), second edition.

The distribution event, held in Gusau, was flagged off by Senator Tinubu, who was represented by the Zamfara State Governor's wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal. She noted that the programme is an annual initiative aimed at supporting the welfare of senior citizens.

According to Senator Tinubu, the 250 beneficiaries—comprising individuals aged 65 and above—were carefully selected, including veterans from the armed forces, police widows, and less-privileged elderly citizens.

She further announced that the grant had been increased from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide greater support for the elderly during the festive period.

Senator Tinubu commended the efforts of governors’ wives and Renewed Hope Initiative State Coordinators for ensuring the programme's success.

While congratulating the beneficiaries, she urged them to prioritize their health. "Even as you celebrate festivities, eat well, stay hydrated, do light exercises like walking, and get adequate rest," she advised.

One of the beneficiaries, Mallam Garba Saidu, expressed gratitude for the gesture, stating that the grant would significantly improve the living conditions of senior citizens across the country.

"We will make judicious use of the money by establishing small-scale businesses that will enable us to live better lives," he added.
