The Kebbi State Government has donated ₦50 million to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion.
Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, made the announcement during the launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund for fallen heroes. The event, part of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Week, was held at the council chambers of the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
In addition to the government’s donation, the governor personally pledged ₦10 million on behalf of his family and the Kauran Gwandu Foundation.
Governor Idris expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices of the fallen heroes, recognizing their dedication to preserving Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty. He called on individuals, groups, corporate organizations, and the general public to contribute generously to support the families of these heroes.
Describing the event as a tribute to the peace and stability secured by the fallen soldiers, the governor assured the audience that efforts to maintain peace in Kebbi State were ongoing. He also directed the State Commissioner for Lands and Housing to allocate plots of land in Argungu, Yauri, and Zuru to the Nigerian Legion.
Earlier in the event, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Retired Sergeant Garba Hassan-Suru, commended Governor Idris for his continued support. He acknowledged the numerous initiatives by the Kauran Gwandu administration to assist the legion and encouraged others to contribute to the welfare of fallen heroes’ families.
The ceremony featured the decoration of Governor Idris with the emblem, alongside Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Mohammed Usman-Zuru. The formal launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund followed.
