The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has urged members of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, to lay a strong foundation to propel the institution to excellence.
Governor Idris made the appeal while receiving the council members and principal officers of the college during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
“I urge you to work hard and remain committed to laying a solid foundation for the college to achieve the goals and objectives for which it was established,” the governor said. “As someone who has been a teacher throughout my career, education has always been my top priority.”
The governor assured the delegation of his continued collaboration with the Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, to drive the development of Kebbi State in all sectors. He also pledged that his administration would provide support and suggestions to ensure the growth and success of the college.
The leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Isma’ila Ahmed Gadaka, congratulated the governor and the people of Kebbi State on the Federal Government’s decision to establish the college in Yauri. Gadaka explained that the visit was to introduce members of the Governing Council and the Principal Officers of the college and to express gratitude for the governor’s contributions to its smooth take-off.
The chairman commended the governor for donating the Government Day Secondary School in Tondi as the college’s temporary site and for allocating a vast expanse of land for its permanent campus. Gadaka formally introduced the council members and principal officers to the governor and requested support in several areas, including utility vehicles, financial assistance for daily operations, road construction on the campus, renovation of existing structures, and perimeter fencing.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Tanko-Sununu, highlighted Governor Idris’ dedication to education, both as a former Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and as the state’s Executive Governor. He described the governor as a passionate advocate for education and noted his significant role in the establishment of the college.
Dr. Tanko-Sununu emphasized that Governor Idris contributed immensely to the passage of the bill for the college’s establishment in the National Assembly and its subsequent approval by the President. He also noted that the governor paid full compensation for the 145 hectares of land allocated for the college’s permanent site and handed over all relevant documents to the Federal Ministry of Education.
The minister further commended the governor for his efforts in establishing a National Open University study center in Yauri, underscoring his commitment to advancing education in Kebbi State.
