The Kebbi State Geographic Information System Agency (KEBGIS) is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to develop an Urban Resilience and Sustainability Plan, an official has disclosed.

As part of efforts to achieve this goal, KEBGIS recently hosted a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under the Federal Government’s Technical Assistance Initiative, which aims to promote orderly growth and sustainable development across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Under this initiative, the consultancy firm Messrs Mbaflox Nigeria Ltd has been commissioned to develop an Urban Resilience and Sustainability Plan to mitigate the effects of climate change in Birnin Kebbi.

During the visit, the consulting team engaged with KEBGIS officials to discuss key strategies for enhancing the city's resilience to climate change while fostering sustainable urban development.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of KEBGIS, ESV. Bashiru Saidu Bakuwai, expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable urban planning.

"We are delighted to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the consultants on this vital initiative," he said.

"The discussions held today reaffirm our collective dedication to ensuring a more resilient and environmentally sustainable Birnin Kebbi.

"We appreciate the support from all stakeholders and look forward to implementing the outlined strategies for the betterment of our city."

Bakuwai assured that the Kebbi State Government remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable urban development and resilience against climate change.

He further emphasized that KEBGIS will continue working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
