Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago extends his deepest condolences to the families and victims of a tanker explosion in Karamin Rami of Mashegu local government area of the State.

In a message by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the farmer Governor describes the incident as unfortunate, worrisome and traumatic.

He says it is a difficult moment for the State and his prayers are with the families of the victims, the injured and the entire people of Mashegu local government area.

The farmer Governor says his administration has demonstrated determination and capacity to improve on the poor roads infrastructure across the State through the ongoing statewide road constructions, and will not relent in its efforts.

He enjoined all road users, especially tanker drivers to drive with utmost caution, and sense of responsibility.

While praying for the repose of the souls of those that died in the explosion and quick recovery to the injured, the farmer Governor promises that the State government through relevant MDAs will provide support to the injured and the families of the deceased victims.

He commended the management and staff of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA for the quick response and support and urged them to carry out thorough assessment for further interventions.

A tanker explosion was reported to have occurred in Karamin Rami, Mashegu local government area, killing seven people, injured one and destroyed many farmlands.

The tanker was said to have fallen off while trying to manoeuvre its way as a result of the bad condition of the road, spilling it content on the road and in a nearby stream where dry-season farmers were working on their rice fields.

The spilled fuel reportedly cane into contact with a water pump being used by the farmers and ignited a fire that spread back to the tanker and caused the explosion.

The fire extended to the farmlands through the contaminated stream and burnt some farmers and many farmlands, leaving one injured who is currently receiving treatment at a Primary Healthcare Centre within the local government.
