The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has raised alarm over fraudulent activities being perpetrated by individuals falsely claiming to be leaders of the Katsina State Chapter.

According to a press statement released by the NYCN National Headquarters jointly signed by Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, National President of NYCN, and Barr. Suleiman Abubakar, National Secretary, the impostors are attempting to deceive the public by organizing a fake election for positions within the Katsina State Chapter.

"Reliable information has been gathered by the NYCN National Headquarters indicating that these individuals are taking advantage of the trust of unsuspecting youth in Katsina State. They are attempting to defraud them by falsely claiming to conduct elections for positions within the NYCN Katsina State Chapter," the statement read.

In response to the situation, the NYCN National Headquarters, constitutionally responsible for overseeing state chapter elections, has formally notified key authorities. These include the Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Dikko Umar Radda, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the Department of State Security Services, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi. The Katsina State Commissioner of Police has also been briefed.

The NYCN urged these agencies to take immediate action to prevent further exploitation of the youth.

The statement further clarified that Comrade Shamsu Ibrahim Shamo remains the legitimate and duly elected Chairman of the NYCN Katsina State Chapter. "No elections are currently planned or taking place," the council emphasized, adding that only the NYCN National Headquarters has the constitutional authority to oversee and announce any future elections within the chapter.

The NYCN strongly warned Local Government Area (LGA) Coordinators, Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs), and all youth in Katsina State to avoid participating in any event organized by the impostors. "Their sole aim is to exploit and deceive the youth, especially by taking advantage of their hard-earned resources," the statement cautioned.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the NYCN assured the youth of Katsina that all future electoral processes would be properly communicated through official channels, with full participation of all stakeholders.

The council concluded by calling on security agencies to act swiftly against the fraudulent individuals, stating that their actions threaten the peace and stability enjoyed by the youth in Katsina State. "We urge all youth in Katsina State to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or individuals attempting to exploit them," the statement added.
