The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, has engaged hundreds of individuals in a symbolic handshake to appreciate their continued support for the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Nuhu Basheer Masa, Personal Assistant (Media & Communication) to the DG, and released on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The event, held at Miringa Nigeria Limited in Dakace, Zaria, brought together hundreds of attendees, including members of various political parties, religious groups, and well-wishers. As part of the occasion, each participant received an envelope containing cash, along with images of Dr. Imam and Speaker Abbas. The initiative aims to recognise and reward the people’s steadfast support and prayers for the Speaker.
Dr. Imam plans to extend this handshake to no fewer than 500 individuals from Zaria. Before the event, 200 people had already participated, with another 200 joining during the gathering. Additionally, members of First Aid groups from Fityanul Islam and JIBWIS received handshakes in recognition of their dedication during Ramadan and beyond.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Imam emphasised Speaker Abbas’s ongoing efforts to distribute food items to worship centers, political groups, social organizations, and individuals as part of his Ramadan support initiative.
“The essence of this handshake is for you to cleanse the hands that received food items provided by Speaker Abbas,” Dr. Imam stated.
This initiative, the first of its kind, is intended to reinforce the Speaker’s commitment to improving the lives of not only the people of Zaria but also the entire Kaduna State. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the gesture and commended Dr. Imam for his unwavering loyalty and support for the Speaker.
"More people will participate in the handshake event before the end of Ramadan," Dr. Imam added.
