The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, has urged traditional titleholders in the Bida Emirate to consistently contribute to the development of their respective communities.
The royal father gave the charge while receiving the Niger State Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana, who paid him a thank-you visit at the Wadata Palace on Saturday. Dr. Dangana was recently conferred with the traditional title of Baraden Gabas Nupe.
According to the Etsu Nupe, traditional titles are conferred on individuals who have made significant contributions to the socio-cultural and economic development of their people. He noted that the title conferred on Dr. Dangana was in recognition of his efforts in these areas.
The Etsu Nupe further commended the new Baraden Gabas Nupe for his contributions to primary healthcare services, human capital development, and the promotion of Nupe cultural values and traditions.
In his remarks, Dr. Dangana expressed gratitude to the Etsu Nupe for the honour and dedicated the title to the Executive Governor of Niger State, Farmer Umar Mohammed Bago, for giving him the opportunity to serve in the state’s executive council.
Dr. Dangana explained that the governor’s decision to upgrade the state’s Primary Healthcare Agency into a full-fledged ministry was aimed at enhancing the delivery of healthcare services across the state.
He disclosed that the state government is currently constructing 100 Step-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across Niger State. These facilities will include in-patient wards, operating theatres, standard medical laboratories, doctors’ quarters, and other essential amenities.
Speaking on the significance of his new title, Dr. Dangana said it marks his inclusion into the warriors’ class of the emirate—not to fight wars, but to battle child-killer diseases, reduce maternal mortality, and improve grassroots primary healthcare delivery.
He pledged that the recognition would inspire him to do even more in the service of humanity.
Also speaking, the Mayakin Nupe, Pharmacist Yahaya Aliyu Mayaki, praised the virtues of the new Baraden Gabas Nupe and thanked the Etsu Nupe for honouring Dr. Dangana with the prestigious title.
He encouraged Dr. Dangana to view the honour as motivation to surpass his previous achievements and continue his good works.
The Mayakin Nupe also expressed concern over the increasing moral decadence among the youth and called on influential leaders like Dr. Dangana to support efforts aimed at curbing youth restiveness and promoting positive values in society.
