The Kebbi State Government has refuted claims that the state recorded 15,979 registered homosexuals and 18,567 registered lesbians.

Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, dismissed the allegations while reacting to a statement made by Dr. Nasir Kigo, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, during an Islamic gathering.

The governor criticized the figures presented by the permanent secretary, describing them as baseless and lacking credible evidence.

"After a thorough investigation, the government has confirmed that this information is false. We urge the general public to disregard it, as it lacks merit," Idris stated.

He further announced that the government would take action against the permanent secretary for spreading what he described as unfounded statistics.

It was reported that Dr. Kigo, during his lecture at the Islamic gathering, claimed that census data had ranked Sokoto second in the country, with 9,978 registered homosexuals and 10,456 registered lesbians.

"In Kebbi, the first census recorded 1,088 fully registered homosexuals and 7,986 lesbians. However, in the subsequent census, the figures reportedly increased to 15,979 and 18,567, respectively," Kigo had alleged in a Facebook post summarizing his lecture.

The government has urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading misleading statistics.
