Commonwealth Society of Nigeria has presented a global Peace award for humanitarian services and women empowerment to the Jagaban Matan Zazzau, Prof. Maryam Aliyu Abdullahi.
She was slated to be among the 15 persons presented with the award at the national merit house in Abuja, but was however rescheduled to Zaria due to her absence at the grand occasion because of travel for lesser pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
Presenting the award in Zaria, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FRCN Chapel, and its FM-affiliated stations across Northern Nigeria, Comrade Umar Adamu Sarkin fada who represented Prince Musa Abubakar Abutu, Secretary General of the society said the gesture was in recognition of her selfless services to humanity.
Comrade Sarkin Fada stated that "by this presentation, you have now become a Commonwealth society Ambassador of peace.
"Apart from the award, an identity card will be issued to you that would allow you enjoy some privileges in all commonwealth countries visited.." He explained.
Commonwealth Society of Nigeria is an organization that aims to motivate Nigerians excelling in various fields, aligning it's activities with commonwealth values and addressing issues like HIV/AIDS, climate change, and security challenges, while promoting social and educational values.
The Chapel Chairman further explained that the society focuses on motivating individuals who are doing well in Nigeria and works with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Commonwealth Foundation in London. He said the organization identifies and recognizes and individuals who contributed significantly to societal well-being, as exemplified by the appointment of Prof. Maryam Aliyu Abdullahi (Jagaban Matan Zazzau ) as a Commonwealth Society Ambassador.
Comrade Sarkin fada stressed that the society also encourages understanding of ethnic and cultural values within the Commonwealth in Nigeria and promotes social and educational initiatives.among other activities.
Responding, Prof Maryam Aliyu Abdullahi (Jagaban Matan Zazzau) while appreciating the gesture, pledged to continue with the selfless services for the progress of the society.
She described the award as a morale booster that would ginger her to be more committed to philantrophy and human empowerment.
Prof. Abdullahi enjoined well meaning Nigerians to engage in services that assist the women, orphans and less privileged to compliment government effort on poverty reduction in the country.
Others at the award presentation were Alhaji Aminu Muktar Sambo, the Sodangin Zazzau and Alhaji Abdulraheem Sallau, former Director of Administration, ABUTH Shika.
