A coalition of concerned citizens in Bauchi State has called on the people of the state, particularly youth and women to rally behind Senator Halliru Dauda Jika in his bid to contest the 2027 governorship election.
The coalition also appealed to the incumbent Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, to support the initiative, while pledging their loyalty and confidence in Jika's ability to lead the state with dignity, competence, and respect for all.
Speaking during a press conference on Saturday in Bauchi, the chairman of the coalition, Hon. Ahmed Yero, urged the media to help disseminate information about the movement across all levels, highlighting the senator’s vision and blueprint for the progress of Bauchi State.
Yero noted that the coalition had recently launched a campaign to mobilize grassroots support for Senator Jika's gubernatorial ambition.
He stressed the need to present the most qualified and capable leader to steer the affairs of the state in 2027.
“With a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the future of our dear state—and without prejudice to other aspirants—we strongly believe that Senator Halliru Dauda Jika possesses the qualities necessary to govern Bauchi State effectively,” Yero stated.
He traced Senator Jika’s political journey, starting from his election as a member representing Ganjuwa West in the Bauchi State House of Assembly in 2007, where he later became Speaker. He then went on to represent the Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, eventually serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs from 2015 to 2019. He is immediate past Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, which covers six local government areas.
“Our engagement with citizens across the state returned overwhelmingly positive feedback in support of his candidacy,” Yero said. “Although he contested in the 2023 elections, this time, the people are even more determined to see him emerge as the next governor.”
He added that the coalition has written to political stakeholders across party lines, traditional rulers, and religious leaders statewide to seek their support, guidance, and prayers for the success of the project.
