Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), on Tuesday held a one-day orientation for students participating in the 2024/2025 Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
The event, held at Mamman Kontagora Square, was aimed at preparing students for their upcoming industrial attachment placements across the country.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Raymond B. Bako, described the SIWES programme as a vital bridge between classroom learning and real-world application. He urged the students to be diligent, professional, and to serve as worthy ambassadors of the University.
Also speaking, the Kaduna Area Manager of ITF, Mrs. Habiba Mason Javan, represented by SIWES Officer Malam Muhammed Salisu, said the scheme provides students with valuable workplace exposure and critical professional skills.
ABU SIWES Coordinator, Prof. Nasiru Rabiu, reminded students that the industrial attachment is a six-month academic requirement, and called for stronger institutional collaboration to maximise its benefits.
In his closing remarks, Acting Registrar Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia offered prayers for the students’ success and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity.
