The member representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, has donated a Massey Ferguson 375 tractor to the Darazo-Ganjuwa Farm Mechanization Support Initiative (DAGFAMSI), aimed at enhancing mechanized farming among registered local farmers.
Also, the lawmaker provided farm inputs worth millions of naira to empower youths and promote food security across the constituency.
Speaking during the presenting the equipment held at Yuli, Ganjuwa local government area yesterday, Hon. Soro emphasised his dedication to improving the livelihoods of farmers in his constituency through sustainable agricultural initiatives.
"This donation complements an earlier tractor of the same brand, which we facilitated after registering DAGFAMSI with relevant government agencies back in 2020," he noted.
Hon. Soro also launched the first phase of the MMS Young Millionaires in Agriculture program, empowering 125 youths with a comprehensive input package.
Each beneficiary received 4 bags of NPK 15-15-15 fertiliser, 15kg of Faro-69 improved rice seeds, 4 litres of assorted pesticides and herbicides, a N20,000 land clearance grant, and one knapsack sprayer.
The initiative targets the cultivation of one acre of rice per beneficiary, with an expected yield of up to 40 bags of paddy rice currently valued at approximately N2 million per farmer.
"The second phase of the program will commence after the successful implementation and evaluation of the first phase by our agricultural extension services team," he added.
Hon. Soro reaffirmed his commitment to making agriculture a priority for the constituency, noting that the intervention is part of efforts to bridge Nigeria’s rice deficit, currently estimated at 3.5 million metric tonnes annually.
