Senator Shehu Buba Umar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, has stressed the need for strong community and stakeholder collaboration in tackling the rising wave of insecurity in Duguri-Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The senator, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, made the call yesterday during a condolence visit to the families of over ten people, including hunters and civilians, who were brutally killed by bandits in Garin Mansur village.

Senator Buba visited the homes of the victims and met with traditional leader,s including the District Head of Duguri, and the village heads of Alkaleri, Garin Mansur, and Gwana.

“Though I was out of the country when the attack occurred, I came directly to offer my condolences upon returning,” he said.

“Bauchi is known for its peaceful coexistence, but recent developments in Alkaleri threaten that reputation. We must not allow criminal elements to succeed," he added.

He emphasised the importance of timely information sharing between communities and security agencies as a way to prevent future attacks, adding that he would work closely with the Bauchi State Government, security forces, youths, and local leaders to find long-term solutions.

In a show of compassion and support, the senator donated N10 million to assist the bereaved families.

Accompanied by Hon. Kabiru Y. Makama (AKY Makama), member of the House of Representatives representing Alkaleri/Kirfi Federal Constituency, Senator Buba described the attack as a cowardly act that threatens regional stability.

He called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.

The tragic incident took place on May 4, 2025, when a combined patrol of local hunters from Duguri and Gwana Districts was ambushed by armed bandits along the Duguri–Mansur–Dajin Mada forest corridor near the Bauchi–Plateau border.
