Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to deepening judicial reforms and enhancing the justice sector.
The governor made the remarks while officially opening a two-day capacity-building workshop for newly appointed Shari’a Court Judges, organized by the Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse.
In his address, Governor Namadi emphasized the pivotal role of the judiciary in a constitutional democracy. “The functions of the judiciary in ensuring an effective and well-functioning polity cannot be overemphasized,” he said.
While noting that all three arms of government share constitutional responsibilities, he stated, “The ultimate burden of responsibility in ensuring social justice in any human society rests with the judiciary.”
Governor Namadi commended the ongoing reforms in the state judiciary and praised the Judicial Service Commission, led by the Chief Judge, for organizing the workshop.
He highlighted that successive governments in Jigawa have pursued institutional and governance reforms to promote good governance, particularly focusing on improving justice delivery in terms of accessibility, timeliness, equity, and fairness.
Addressing the new Shari’a Court Judges, the governor urged them to uphold integrity and dispense justice without fear or favor. “You have solemnly sworn to do right to all manner of people, according to law, without bias,” he reminded them.
He also invoked their spiritual responsibilities, quoting the Quran: “… Whoso doeth righteousness an atom’s weight will see it … and whoso doeth evil an atom’s weight will see it….” Governor Namadi called on the judges to perform their duties with the fear of Allah, ensuring impartiality and fairness in all proceedings.
Reassuring the judiciary of ongoing support, Governor Namadi promised continued investment in judicial infrastructure, staff welfare, capacity building, and collaboration between the judiciary and executive arms to foster peace, security, and social cohesion across the state.
In his remarks, Hon. Chief Judge and JSC Chairman, Justice Umar M. Sadiq, described the workshop as a “substantial turning point” for strengthening the capacity of Shari’a Court Alkalis. He stressed that a judge’s knowledge of the law is the most vital tool for fair, timely, and impartial justice.
“This workshop provides the Alkalis an opportunity to refresh fundamental adjudication skills, the sole weapon for making just decisions,” Justice Sadiq stated.
The training is part of Governor Namadi’s broader 12-point development agenda focusing on governance, institutional reforms, and improved justice delivery in Jigawa State.
