The Niger State Government has procured 25 additional vehicles for donation to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Niger State Command, to enhance patrol operations, particularly in major towns across the state.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed this at the passing-out ceremony of 50 officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 23, Minna. The event was held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre in Minna, the state capital.

The Governor also revealed that the state government is collaborating with the Police to construct barracks on the outskirts of Minna to strengthen security coverage in all parts of the state capital.

While congratulating the graduating officers, Governor Bago expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for establishing the unit and providing the necessary training. He reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in their efforts to curb insecurity in the state.

The Commander of SPU Base 23, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Hassan Sani, explained that the unit was recently established by the Inspector General of Police to meet the growing demand for elite protective services in the country.

He noted that the 50 participants underwent an intensive two-week basic training program designed to instill discipline and enhance practical skills. The curriculum covered VIP protection, escort and convoy movement, combat parades and formations, firearms handling and shooting range drills, martial arts and self-defense, first aid, and basic firefighting skills.

CSP Sani commended the participants for their resilience and dedication and urged them to uphold the knowledge, discipline, and values gained during training as they take on future assignments. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Bago for his unwavering support and partnership with the Nigeria Police.

The ceremony featured a symbolic presentation of certificates to the graduates, a combat parade, VIP protection demonstrations, and other tactical simulations.
