A former Minister of Environment under the Buhari administration and influential All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Nasarawa State, Mohammed H. Abdullahi, has formally resigned his membership of the ruling party, signalling a potential shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter dated June 1, 2025, and addressed to the APC Chairman in Uke Ward, Karu Local Government Area, Abdullahi, who holds the traditional title of Magajin Garin Uke, cited personal reasons for his decision to leave the party, though he offered no further explanation.

“I thank you for the cooperation while I was in the APC, where we made modest contributions in building the party in the state,” he wrote.

Copies of the resignation letter were also sent to the APC Chairman in Karu LGA and the Nasarawa State APC Chairman, marking a definitive end to his involvement in the party’s activities.

Abdullahi’s departure comes amid growing speculation over his political future, particularly as he has been actively engaging with stakeholders across the state in what is believed to be groundwork for a gubernatorial bid in 2027. Though he has not officially declared his next political move, rumours suggest he may be planning to join an opposition party to pursue his ambitions.

During his tenure as Minister of Environment under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Abdullahi was known for championing environmental reforms and development initiatives. He also played a key role in the consolidation of APC structures in Nasarawa State.

His resignation is expected to have political ripple effects, especially within the APC in Nasarawa, where he commands a considerable following. Observers say his next move will be closely watched as the race toward the 2027 elections begins to take shape.
