The Niger State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Mokwa town in Mokwa Local Government Area following the recent devastating flood that claimed lives and destroyed property.

In a statement issued by the chapter, NIPR expressed sympathy to the families who lost loved ones and comforted those who suffered property and economic losses. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected individuals and communities during this difficult time," the statement read.

The institute called on government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and philanthropic individuals to urgently provide relief materials, such as food, clothing, and medical supplies, to support the victims. It emphasised that timely intervention would help alleviate the suffering of the affected people and prevent the outbreak of health crises.

NIPR also advised residents to avoid settling in flood-prone areas, stressing the importance of sustainable development planning and emergency preparedness to avert similar disasters in the future.

Reports from the affected area indicate that the flood wreaked havoc on homes, businesses, and public infrastructure, displacing many residents and causing widespread hardship.

The statement urged the Niger State Government and other stakeholders to collaborate in providing both immediate relief and long-term strategies for flood prevention and mitigation.

The NIPR Niger State Chapter reaffirmed its readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders to provide professional support, awareness, and guidance in navigating the challenges arising from the disaster.
