In a pulsating final that had fans on the edge of their seats, Young Argentina FC edged past Flamingos FC with a slim 1–0 victory to lift the USFAH Foundation Football Tournament trophy on Saturday, 31st May 2025.

Hosted at the Ahmadu Bello University Sports Complex, kick-off was at 4:30 PM, and from the blast of the whistle, it was clear neither side came to play second fiddle. But it was Young Argentina who delivered the knockout punch—a brilliant solo effort that ended in a one-on-one finish past the goalkeeper in the 25th minute of the first half. That goal turned out to be the golden strike of the tournament.

With 12 clubs battling it out from April 15 to May 31, this year’s edition of the tournament was nothing short of electrifying. The road to the final was a war of tactics, stamina, and skill—and the grand finale lived up to every expectation.

Spectators were treated to a feast of football with tension so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Every pass, tackle, and save was met with thunderous applause or gasps of anxiety. The atmosphere was electric as fans cheered, sang, and even prayed for their teams.

The stands were packed with hundreds of fans, dignitaries, and football enthusiasts. Among the high-profile attendees were the representative of the Governor of Kaduna State, a representative of Seyi Tinubu, the Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government Council, Hon. Jamilu Albani, the Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, a delegate from the Director-General of NTA represented by the Executive Director for Northwest, the Vice Chairman of the Kaduna State Football Association, traditional title holders, football stakeholders, and security officials.

The man behind the tournament, Comrade Usman Baba Kankia, Founder and CEO of USFAH Foundation, expressed joy at the tournament’s success. “We organised this competition to increase youth unity and strengthen relationships,” he said. “I felt very happy—very, very happy. Every year, we will continue to organise this competition to unite the youth.”

He congratulated Young Argentina FC for their hard-fought victory and encouraged them to remain united and focused. He also extended his gratitude to all teams, supporters, and officials who contributed to the tournament’s success.

After the final whistle, it was time for the big rewards. The champions, Young Argentina FC, walked away with a ₦200,000 cash prize, a glittering trophy, jerseys, footballs, and 30 gold medals.

Flamingos FC, the gallant runners-up, were not left out—they received ₦150,000, 30 medals, jerseys, balls, and a runner-up trophy.

To top it off, individual excellence was recognised as awards were presented for the Most Valuable Player, Best Coach, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Fair Play Team. All prizes were handed out on the pitch by the dignitaries, capping off what was truly a festival of football.

As fans danced, posed for selfies, and sang team anthems long after the final whistle, one thing was clear: the USFAH Foundation Football Tournament had not only crowned a new champion, it had united a community through the beautiful game.

With football fever running high, the fans of Young Argentina FC were already looking ahead, brimming with hope. “Next year, we go again,” one supporter beamed. “And In Sha Allah, we’ll win it again!”
