In a renewed push to improve students’ living conditions, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association has announced a strategic renovation initiative targeting hostels across the institution’s Samaru and Kongo campuses.

The initiative, tagged ‘Renovate A Room’, was unveiled on Monday, June 2, during a courtesy visit to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, on the same day.

Chairperson of the FCT chapter, Dr. Asabe Mustapha, who led the delegation, disclosed that the project will be executed in phases and financed by contributions from ABU alumni and friends of the university. She noted that the initiative is designed to directly address the deteriorating conditions in student hostels.

“This project is a way for us, as proud alumni, to give back to our alma mater and improve the welfare of current students,” she said. “We will work closely with the university administration to ensure efficient planning and successful execution.

Dr. Mustapha also used the occasion to congratulate Professor Ahmed on his appointment as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of ABU, describing his emergence as a positive step for the university. She pledged the chapter’s full support and cooperation throughout his tenure.

She was accompanied by the chapter’s Secretary-General, Hajiya Fatima Yusuf, and Financial Secretary, Comrade Isa Salihu.

Responding, Professor Ahmed welcomed the delegation and praised the chapter’s commitment to supporting the university. “This initiative is timely and commendable,” he said. “The comfort and welfare of our students, as well as nurturing strong alumni relations, remain central to our administration’s priorities.”

He assured the alumni of the university’s full cooperation and commended them for “coming back home” with a vision to make a difference.

Also present at the meeting was Professor Sani Abba Aliyu, mni, Director of the Directorate of Advancement and International Education, who assisted in receiving the delegation.

The ‘Renovate A Room’ project is expected to commence soon, with further details to be announced as planning progresses.
