Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged young people to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship as pathways to self-reliance and improved livelihoods.
The governor made the call during the 2025 Nigerian Artisans and Technicians Conference (NATC) held in Bauchi.
Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Investment, Mohammed Salis, the governor advised youths to shift focus from seeking government jobs to exploring vocational training and business development opportunities.
“Our administration places a high premium on skill acquisition programmes and the establishment of technical schools,” he said.
“We are always ready to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local artisans to develop their skills and expand their businesses.”
Governor Mohammed also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing policies aimed at creating opportunities for SMEs, calling for the continuation of impactful programmes in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Convener of NATC 2025, Mr. Dayo Bello, said the conference was designed to bridge the gap between the informal sector and government institutions. Bello, who is also the Managing Director of Global Sight Services Limited, said the forum seeks to align artisan development with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the Tinubu administration.
In his remarks, Mr. Zakari Ibrahim of the Industrial Development Department, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, encouraged artisans to register with relevant authorities in order to benefit from federal government interventions and access regulatory support.
Aljazirah Nigeria reports that the conference brought together key stakeholders from the informal, corporate, and government sectors, highlighting the crucial role of vocational skills in driving inclusive economic growth.
