Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has assured that Niger State will play its constitutional role with patriotism, integrity, and foresight by supporting amendments that promote justice and safeguard the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.

He made this known during the public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), held in Minna for the North Central Zone, Centre A, which comprises Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states. The event was organized at the instance of the House of Representatives.

Represented by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, Governor Bago commended the National Assembly for initiating the process, describing it as a sign of responsiveness and a commitment to inclusive governance, participatory democracy, and nation-building through institutional reform.

Governor Bago emphasized that the hearing provides a platform for all stakeholders to voice their concerns and aspirations, and to offer constructive input aimed at reshaping the constitution to be more just, equitable, and reflective of the people's needs.

He urged the National Assembly to ensure that the views expressed by the people and institutions of Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states are duly incorporated, noting that the hearing represents a vital step toward a more representative and enduring constitutional framework.

Earlier, the chairman of the North Central Centre A of the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review, who is also the deputy majority leader of the Green Chamber, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, said the public hearing is designed to encourage citizen participation in the amendment process.

He stressed that the unity of Nigeria largely depends on the outcome of the constitutional review, and urged all contributors to prioritize submissions that would foster growth, peace, unity, and national development.

In their separate goodwill messages, the governor of Kogi State—represented by the commissioner for justice and attorney general, Barr. Muiz Yinus Abdullahi—and the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, appealed to the National Assembly to thoroughly address all relevant issues in order to deliver a truly people-centered constitution.
