The Member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, has strongly condemned the recent escalation of violence in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, while commending Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his swift and decisive response.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, Rt. Hon. Laori described dialogue and reconciliation as the only sustainable pathways to resolving the conflict.
“I strongly condemn the recent outbreak of violence between members of the Tshobo and Bachama communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State,” he said.
“The loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of innocent citizens is deeply saddening and a tragic departure from the history of peaceful coexistence that defines our people.”
Laori emphasized the long-standing bonds between the Tshobo and Bachama communities, who, for centuries, have lived as brothers, sharing cultural values, beliefs, and family ties through intermarriage.
“It is painful to see this bond threatened by violence. I call on all parties involved to embrace dialogue, reconciliation, and peace. Violence only breeds further division and suffering; it is never the answer,” he added.
The federal lawmaker commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his proactive intervention, particularly his decision to impose a curfew to prevent the violence from spreading further.
“I commend and applaud the timely intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his decisive action in imposing a curfew to curb further escalation. This measure is a critical step toward restoring calm and safeguarding lives and property. His leadership in this moment of crisis is both commendable and reassuring,” Laori stated.
He also extended his condolences to bereaved families and expressed sympathy to those who suffered losses or displacement as a result of the unrest.
“I stand in solidarity with you during this painful time,” Laori said.
The lawmaker urged relevant government agencies and security operatives to intensify efforts toward restoring peace and ensuring the safe return of displaced persons to their homes. He further appealed to community leaders, youth groups, religious organizations, and all stakeholders to actively engage in peacebuilding and reconciliation initiatives.
“This is a time for sober reflection, unity, and responsible leadership. Let us rise above anger and division to reclaim the peace and dignity of our communities,” Laori concluded.
