Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago, has been honoured with the Best Governor in Agriculture and Infrastructure Award by Blueprint Newspaper, in recognition of his transformative contributions to the state’s agricultural and infrastructural development.

The award was presented during the 2025 Blueprint Public Lecture, Impact Series, and Awards Ceremony, held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel. Governor Bago was represented at the event by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajia Binta Mamman.

According to Blueprint Newspaper, the award celebrates Governor Bago’s bold efforts to expand food production, empower farmers, and reposition Niger State as Nigeria’s leading food basket. It also acknowledges his sustained investments in rural and urban infrastructure aimed at accelerating economic growth and enhancing connectivity across the state.

The high-profile event, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, was attended by prominent dignitaries including Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, as well as ministers of Information and National Orientation, Solid Minerals, Agriculture and Food Security, Livestock Development, and Water Resources.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Hajia Binta Mamman thanked Blueprint Newspaper for recognising the administration’s achievements. She described the honour as a boost to the government’s determination to pursue its reform agenda under the Renewed Hope framework.

“This award is a testament to Governor Bago’s vision of transforming Niger State through strategic agricultural investments and infrastructure renewal. It reinforces our commitment to improving livelihoods, strengthening food security, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic development,” she said.

Governor Bago’s administration has launched landmark initiatives including large-scale mechanised farming, irrigation development, value chain optimisation, and rural road rehabilitation. These efforts are improving market access, reducing post-harvest losses, and stimulating economic activity across local communities.

The Blueprint award further affirms Governor Bago’s reputation as a result-driven leader championing inclusive, people-focused governance and sustainable development in Niger State.
