In a renewed call for African-driven development and regional economic collaboration, Hon. Kwamoti B. Laori, Member of the House of Representatives (Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency), has commended Tanzania’s thriving sisal industry, urging Nigerian and African investors to explore its vast potential.

The commendation followed Rep. Laori’s recent official visit to the United Republic of Tanzania, where he engaged with key stakeholders in the country's world-renowned sisal value chain.

Deeply impressed by the scale, structure, and promise of Tanzania’s sisal sector, Rep. Laori extended appreciation to the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Selestine Gervas Kakele; the Director General of the Tanzania Sisal Board, Mr. Saddy Kambona; and the Director of Sisal Development, Mr. Olivo Mtunge, for their warm hospitality and visionary leadership.

“Tanzania stands as Africa’s leading producer of sisal, contributing over 35% of global output,” Laori noted. “Sisal is not only essential for traditional uses like ropes, mats, and sacks, but increasingly vital for modern applications such as carpets, composites, and biodegradable geotextiles. This makes it a strategic commodity in today’s eco-conscious global economy.”

Rep. Laori, who previously chaired the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, highlighted Tanzania’s robust institutional support for the sisal industry—ranging from cultivation and processing to research and export facilitation. He described his discussions with the management and staff of the Tanzania Sisal Board as highly enlightening, adding that the sector represents a ready avenue for strategic African investment.

He called on Nigerian investors, agro-industrialists, cooperatives, and development stakeholders to explore cross-border opportunities in the Tanzanian sisal value chain—whether in plantation development, fibre processing, value-added products, or export infrastructure.

“With enabling government policies, abundant arable land, and a skilled workforce, Tanzania offers fertile ground—both literally and economically—for meaningful partnerships,” he stated. “These partnerships can generate profit while strengthening regional integration and industrialisation across Africa.”

Rep. Laori further emphasized the need for African-led solutions to African challenges.

“Africa’s development will not be driven by aid but by mutual cooperation, strategic investments, and a shared vision for prosperity. The sisal fields of Tanzania should stand as symbols of that vision—where solidarity, innovation, and productivity blossom together.”

He concluded by thanking the Tanzanian High Commission in Nigeria and the Tanzania Sisal Board for their professionalism and dedication to building economic bridges across the continent.

“This visit has deepened my conviction in Africa’s potential. I look forward to seeing impactful collaborations between Nigerian stakeholders and Tanzania’s sisal industry in the near future,” he affirmed.
