The Center for Qur’anic Reciters of Nigeria, also known as the National Qur’an Association, under the leadership of Sheikh Hassan Musa, organized a special three-day Qur’anic recitation and prayer session in Minna, Niger State. The prayers were held to seek divine intervention for the rising levels of insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship in the country.

Speaking to journalists at the event, Sheikh Hassan Musa explained that the spiritual gathering—which commenced on Friday and concluded on Sunday—was attended by Islamic scholars and memorizers (Huffaz) from the 19 northern states of Nigeria. He noted that the purpose of the event was to draw closer to God and seek solutions to the deteriorating condition of the nation.

“Sheikh Isyaka Rabi’u, of blessed memory, supported the early stages of this organization. Since its inception, the association has helped unite Qur’anic scholars and students across Nigeria, contributing significantly to the development of Tsangaya schools,” he said.

Sheikh Hassan emphasized that, although the government is making efforts, the challenges facing the country are increasing. He expressed hope that sustained prayers and unity among the Ummah would bring divine relief.

Also speaking, Gwani Salisu Mohammed, Vice Chairman of the Huffazul Qur’an and Scholars in Niger State, said it is time Nigerians, especially Muslims, set aside their differences and face the nation’s pressing issues together.

“There is no greater solution to our problems than returning to Allah. We appreciate Sheikh Hassan’s leadership for organizing this prayer session, despite the difficult circumstances. We pray that Allah accepts our supplications,” he added.

Gwani Abdulkadir Muhammad Barkum, Chief Imam of Juma’at Rangaza Mosque in Ungogo LGA, Kano State, also reaffirmed the spiritual significance of the program, saying, “Allah is the Hearer and Seer. The Qur’an remains the ultimate remedy for society’s problems.”

Representing traditional rulers, Gwani Comr. Umar Ahmed Muhammad Na-Milli (Dan Majen Gumel), called for unity, selflessness, and commitment to the Qur’an’s cause.

“Greed and the lust for power are major causes of division in our society. With unity, we can make real progress. We are even working on publishing a book to promote harmony among traditional rulers and address the divisions that have hindered our national development,” he stated.

He also praised the Emir of Minna, Dr. Umar Faruq Bahago, for his continued support to the association, describing him as “a timeless advocate of peace and unity.”

Imam Nura Malami, the Imam of Imam Malik Juma’at Mosque in Flyover, Sokoto, and National Organizing Secretary of the Association, also appealed to Islamic scholars to unite.

“We chose Niger State for this national prayer due to its ongoing security challenges, and because the national leader of our association hails from here. As Muslims, our faith reminds us that during trials, returning to Allah brings solutions,” he said.

Representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Hon. Aminu Musa Bobi, the APC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Labaran Sarkin Kaji, commended the organizers of the event.

He stated, “This prayer is timely. Despite the federal and state governments’ efforts under Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, terrorist threats persist. We believe the resilience and prayers of religious leaders will help defeat terrorism in Niger State and beyond.”
