The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President, Retired General Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as a monumental loss to the nation.

This was contained in a condolence message issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the National Executive President of RTEAN, Dr. Musa Muhammad Maitakobi.

In the statement, which was signed by RTEAN’s Deputy National President (Administration), Muhammad Abubakar Bishara, the association paid tribute to the late statesman, describing him as a disciplined leader, a patriot, and a tireless advocate for national unity and economic self-reliance.

Dr. Maitakobi noted that during Buhari’s tenure, Nigeria witnessed significant progress in infrastructure development, particularly in road and rail transport, which positively impacted commercial drivers and road users nationwide.

“He was a pillar of national stability and a champion of structured transport development. His administration’s investments in the rehabilitation of federal highways, inland dry ports, and railway revitalisation directly benefited millions of our members and the broader transport sector,” Maitakobi said.

He further commended the late President’s unwavering support for organised transport unions and his commitment to law and order, describing him as a listening leader who respected institutions and upheld the rule of law.

“Nigeria has lost a father figure and a symbol of national discipline. His legacies, especially in infrastructure development and public service reforms, will continue to endure,” the statement added.

RTEAN extended its condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, the Federal Government, and Nigerians at large.

Dr. Maitakobi also urged the association’s more than eight million members across the 774 local government areas of the country to offer special prayers for the repose of the late President’s soul.
