‘Blood Pact with Israel’: Islamic Movement Denounces FG Over Security Deal

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent signing of a security and economic cooperation agreement between the Nigerian government and the State of Israel, describing it as a betrayal of the Palestinian people and a "dangerous alliance" with what it called a "genocidal regime."

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 23, and signed by Sidi Munir Sokoto on behalf of the Movement, the group expressed outrage over the deal, which was signed between Nigeria’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and her Israeli counterpart, Sharren Haskel-Harpaz.

The Islamic Movement accused Israel of ongoing war crimes in Gaza and condemned the Nigerian government for entering into diplomatic and economic engagement with a state it claims is "currently on trial for genocide, apartheid, and crimes against humanity at the International Court of Justice."

“This is not just betrayal. It is collusion with murderers, and an unforgivable sin against humanity,” the statement read. “At a time when over 60,000 Palestinians, including women, children, the elderly, and Christians, have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, the Nigerian government shamelessly opened its doors to these bloodthirsty criminals.”

The group referenced previous official statements from top Nigerian officials critical of Israel's actions in Gaza. In March 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar had described the situation as “completely out of hand and totally unacceptable.” Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima, during his address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, affirmed the Palestinian right to independence and condemned the violence in Gaza.

The Movement questioned the rationale behind the new agreement, accusing the Nigerian government of contradicting its earlier positions. “How does the same government turn around and sign deals with those carrying out the very crimes they condemned?” the statement asked. “This is not foreign policy — it is moral collapse.”

It also alleged that Israel’s interests in Nigeria are not for peace or security, but to “exploit the economy and intelligence systems and expand its influence across Africa.”

Reaffirming its opposition, the Islamic Movement declared that it would never accept Israeli presence in Nigeria “in any form,” and urged Nigerians of all faiths to reject what it called “an alliance with killers.”

“The Nigerian government has sold its dignity. It has betrayed the Palestinians and disgraced the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.

There has been no official response yet from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the concerns raised by the Islamic Movement.
