The Legislative Council of Bosso Local Government Area in Niger State has suspended the council chairperson, Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso.

Hon. Ladidi, the only female council chairperson in Niger State under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is currently serving her second term, having previously held the position under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She becomes the second council chairperson to be suspended from office within the last few months, following the earlier suspension of the Chanchaga LGA chairman, just months before the expiration of their tenure in November.

In a communiqué issued on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, the Bosso Local Government Legislative Council cited allegations of gross misconduct against Hon. Ladidi Bawa Bosso.

“Pursuant to the provisions of the Local Government Laws of Niger State, and following due process, the Bosso Local Government Legislative Council, at its duly convened sitting on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, considered a motion on allegations of gross misconduct against the Chairman, Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso.

“Upon deliberation, and in strict compliance with the law, a vote was taken. Seven (7) councillors, constituting the required three-fourths (¾) majority of the Council, voted in favour of the suspension,” the communiqué stated.

The allegations levelled against the chairman include, but are not limited to:

  • Abuse of office

  • Violation of Local Government Laws

  • Financial impropriety

  • Harassment, extortion, and intimidation

  • Failure to convene statutory council meetings

  • Other acts of gross misconduct inconsistent with the oath of office

Accordingly, the Council resolved that Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso be suspended from office with immediate effect.

In line with the Local Government Laws, formal notice of the suspension has been forwarded to the Governor of Niger State for the constitution of an investigative committee to look into the allegations and submit its findings within the stipulated timeframe.

Meanwhile, the Niger State chapter of the APC has intervened in the escalating rift between the Bosso council executives and legislators.

In a statement signed by the APC Publicity Secretary, Musa D. SarkBosso (Labaran SK), the party said it had waded into the dispute under the leadership of the state party chairman, Hon. Alhaji Aminu Musa Bbobi.

The party called on both parties to sheath their swords and maintain the status quo in the interest of peace, the party, and the state, pending the outcome of further investigations.

The peace meeting was attended by APC state executives, Hon. Ladidi Bawa Bosso and her council members, the Bosso LGA party chairman and other local party executives, ten ward chairmen, and several councillors.
