Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki, Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, has clarified that the recovered N25.9m meant to buy votes belongs to the opposition.
Recall that the Kaduna State Police Command in conjunction with the DSS, had apprehended a suspected vote buyer ahead of Saturday’s by-elections and recovered N25.9million cash in a popular hotel in Kaduna.
The commissioner who was speaking with journalists while assessing the conduct of the bye-election in Zaria and Sabon Gari local government areas of the state.
Mai yaki debunked agitation by opposition parties that the ruling APC is planning to rig the election, stressing that the party has taken time to campaign and canvassed for people's support.
On the arrest of a suspected vote buyer by the security, the commissioner said, "The opposition member was caught with the cash in the hotel, stressing that the pictures are there for everyone to see.
"Votes are not for sale; votes are meant for people to cast based on their conscience," the commissioner said.
On the inspection of the elections, Maiyaki commended the INEC for early distribution of election materials, simultaneous voters accreditation and voting.
While commending the turnout of voters in most of the areas, the commissioner said this level of preparation by INEC and other key stakeholders for the bye-election was unprecedented.
The bye election in Kaduna State is taken place in four local government areas: Sabon Gari, Zaria, Chikun and Kajuru.
